Maersk Container Industry (MCI) Secures Major Order from Seaboard Marine for 1,000 Star Cool Reefers
Seaboard Marine has announced its latest investment in the shipping industry with an
order for 1,000 Star Cool Integrated Reefers, including a portion of units equipped with
Star Cool CA (Controlled Atmosphere). This order, facilitated through leasing company
Global Container International (GCI), reflects Seaboard Marine’s commitment to
modernizing its fleet and enhancing its operational efficiency.
The order includes MCI’s Sekstant reefer monitoring, marking a step in Seaboard Marine’s digital transformation journey. Sekstant provides real-time monitoring and control of the reefer containers and unique OEM features, enhancing operational efficiency and providing critical data for optimizing supply chain logistics. This integration is a crucial component of MCI’s strategy to advance digitalization in the reefer container industry.
“We are excited to further strengthen our partnership with MCI through this investment in Star Cool. These technologies enhance our operational efficiency and align with our sustainability initiatives by reducing our environmental footprint. We look forward to leveraging these advancements to benefit our customers.”
– Frederick Urbina, Director of Fleet Operations at Seaboard Marine.
Seaboard Marine has been a valued Star Cool customer since 2008, when the first tests of the reefer machines demonstrated up to 50% energy savings compared to their existing fleet, establishing the foundation for a long-lasting partnership. The resounding success of the Star Cool CA system in transporting sensitive commodities like asparagus and blueberries has further strengthened this relationship.
The Star Cool CA technology has enhanced Seaboard Marine’s operations, extending the transportation window for perishable goods. This capability is crucial for reducing waste and carbon footprint while ensuring that consumers in the Western Hemisphere can enjoy high-quality produce.
Modern reefers for modern container vessels: Seaboard Marine, known for its extensive network from the United States throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, is investing in new dual-fuel LNG vessels. These modern vessels, arriving later this year, are designed to reduce the environmental impact of their shipping operations, support their sustainability initiatives, and improve energy efficiency. This investment aligns with MCI’s focus on delivering highly energy efficient solutions.
This new order and ongoing collaboration underscore Seaboard Marine’s trust in MCI’s technology and its shared commitment to innovation and sustainability. As MCI continues to develop and enhance its products, the insights and experiences from partners such as Seaboard Marine are invaluable.
